Amy Wesley Bohlayer Carlton, 89, passed away on November 9, 2012 at Greenspring in Springfield, Virginia, after a short battle with cancer. Amy was born on August 28, 1923, in Alexandria, VA, daughter of the late John Bohlayer and Amy Little Bohlayer. Amy spent most of her life in Alexandria and Manassas, VA moving to eastern North Carolina in 1979. She moved to Greenspring in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Walter Carlton, Sr., and a grandson, Jeffrey Carlton.
She is survived by three children and spouses: Walter Carlton, Jr. and Judy of Alexandria, Susan Kite and Steve of Morgantown, WV, Barbara Johnson and Allan of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren: Walter Carlton III, Erika Johnson Coffield, Laura Johnson Thanos, Emily Kite and James Ross Kite; and five great grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 24 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1608 Russell Rd., Alexandria. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Jeffrey C. Carlton Memorial Scholarship at the University of Virginia. Checks should be made out to "Cavalier Daily Alumni Association" with "Carlton Scholarship" in the memo line and mailed to CDAA, P.O. Box 4731, Charlottesville, VA 22905.
