BANEY ANNA MAE BANEY "Anne" Miss Anna Mae "Anne" Baney, a retired research analyst with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services died Monday, May 7, 2012. During her 29 years Federal Government career, Miss Baney was primarily associated with the Social Security Administration and the former Hill-Burton Hospital and Medical Facilities Construction program of the U.S. Public Health Service. She was involved in the preparation of many statistical studies relating to hospitals and nursing homes. She was most proud of the landmark 1956 publication co-authored with the late Dr. Jerry A. Solon entitled, Nursing Homes: Their Patients and Their Care. At the time of her 1973 retirement, she was Special Assistant, Health Care Facilities Service, U.S. Public Health Service. Miss Baney, a native of the Washington area, was a third generation graduate of the former St. Mary's Academy, Alexandria where she received not only academic but musical honors. She was graduated "summa cum laude" from the Dunbarton College of Holy Cross in Washington, DC with an A.B. degree in economics. While a student she was May Queen and active in many campus activities, including pianist for the glee club. She also did graduate work in medical economics at American University. In retirement, she was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, enjoyed traveling, and was a member of the Jefferson and Pinecrest women's golf groups. She was also a member of the John Carroll Society of Washington and had been past president of the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, a national sorority. Miss Baney was the daughter of the late John J. and Ethel Adams Baney and sister of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Duda. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Paul J. Duda and cousin of Carol Ann McDonough, John McDonough, Bonnie Crawford, Randy, Ronnie and Rickey Rowzie and the late Mrs. Jean R. Rowzie. Friends may visit the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of Arlington, 4510 Wilson Blvd. from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m, Monday, May 14 followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 1:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More 3901 Cathedral Ln. Arlington, VA 22203. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 4200 Harewood Rd. NE Washington, DC 20017. Miss Baney was the daughter of the late John J. and Ethel Adams Baney and sister of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Duda. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Paul J.
