Howard B. (Barnes) FitzGerald, 85, Northern Virginia Business Partner and 'Long Since' 'Come Here' Northern Necker, died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, VA. Mr. FitzGerald was born on October 7, 1927 to the late Sarah and Thomas FitzGerald in Birmingham, AL. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Donald FitzGerald and nephew, Gary FitzGerald. In recent years, a resident between Callao, VA and Warrenton, VA, he was a partner in the family businesses, Arlington Iron Works, Inc. of Manassas, VA and Rent-A-Crane, Inc. of Lorton, VA. He was best known for his daily activities at Rent-A-Crane, Inc. from 1957 through 1999, and continued interaction with both until recently. Mr. FitzGerald also had served in the U.S. Army, worked in the auto sales industry and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for a time. He loved and was very close with his family. He enjoyed fishing, boating, clean automobiles, old pick-up trucks, and found peace when mowing. He is survived by his wife, Patricia FitzGerald of Warrenton, VA; daughters, Janice Groff and husband, Bob of Fairfax Station, VA and Becky Edwards of Amissville, VA; granddaughter, Michelle Place and husband, Jeff of Marshall, VA; grandsons, Robert Groff of Arlington, VA and Jay Edwards of Manassas, VA; great- grandchildren, Hailey, Jenna and Skylar Place. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. James Episcopal Church in Warrenton. A private burial will be held on Monday in National Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the The Highland School, 597 Broadview Ave., Warrenton, VA 20186 or the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center, 4715 North 15th Street, Arlington, VA 22205.
