BETTY JEAN EVANS HUMPRHEY  

A distinguished mental health advocate, educator and humanitarian died Saturday, November 13, 2010 of metastatic cancer. Dr. Betty Humphrey, of Mitchellville, MD, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Betty was the beloved wife of William Humphrey, Jr. for 43 years; and devoted mother of Michael L. (Rhonda), Charles W. (Sheila), Dawn M. (Gregory Quattlebaum) and Mark W. She is also survived by 10 cherished grandchildren, Valerie, Charlesa, Chayna, Kanisha, Julian, Courtney, Cydney, Myles, Mark, Jr. and Michael Lawrence; and one great-grandchild, Robbie. Betty's brother, Carl Evans, and sister, Ernestine Trumpler, reside in Orlando FL. Betty was a warm, generous, open minded person who loved the Lord and wanted to leave the world a better place as a result of her work, including her volunteer and advocacy contributions. She touched many hearts and leaves a large extended family and many loved friends who were blessed to know her. Services will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 viewing 10 a.m.; service 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Highland Park, 6801 Sheriff Road, Landover, MD 20785. Reverend Dr. Henry P. Davis, III will officiate the service. Interment at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD. Arrangements entrusted to J. B. Jenkins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests any memorial donations be made to Mission of Love Charities Inc., 6180 Old Central Avenue, Capitol Heights, MD 20743, or Lupus Foundation of America, 2000 L Street, NW, Ste 710, Washington, DC 20036, or Mental Health America, 2000 N.
