Bruce R. Carpenter, Ph.D, age 93, of Bethesda, MD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 8, 2012. He grew up in Beverly Hills, CA and in 1948 he moved to the DC area. He served in the US Air Force during World War II and remained in the Reserves for 35 years. He received a B.A. and M.A. from UCLA and a Ph.D from American University. He worked Intelligence for the US Air Force and the CIA. He loved his family, education and travel. Dr. Carpenter was the loving husband of Loraine for 62 years. He is survived by his wife, Loraine; his two daughters, Gail Elliott and Beth Hendricks and a son-in-law, Jim Hendricks. "Pop Pop" was also the cherished grandfather of Nicole, Erik, Laura and Julie and the great-grandfather of Charlie and Will. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Wildwood Baptist Church, 10200 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, MD.
