CARL F. STEINMETZ (Age 87)
Of Potomac, MD, beloved husband of Jean Repole Steinmetz, died December 14, 2012 in Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, MD. A longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and American Legion Post 105, Mr. Steinmetz retired after a long career at NASA
. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Dr. J. Scott Steinmetz of Attleboro, MA, and Douglas R. Steinmetz, his wife, Jeanne, two granddaughters, Carolyn and Laura, of Bethel, CT, and his sisters-in-law, Lorraine Steinmetz of Trenton, NJ, Ann Mazurek of Ewing, NJ, Emma Lippincott and her husband, Donald, of Hamilton, NJ, and Catherine Repole, also of Hamilton, NJ. Mr. Steinmetz was born in Trenton, the son of Albert James and Marie Golden Steinmetz, grandson of Luke Golden and Anna McGuire, and brother to the late Albert John Steinmetz. A 1944 graduate of Trenton High School, he served in the infantry in the South Pacific in World War II
and fought in the liberation of the Philippines for which he was awarded the Bronze Star
in addition to other commendations. Mr. Steinmetz graduated from Bradley University with a B.A. degree and served in the USAF during the Korean War. Before joining NASA, he was employed by General Electric during which time he earned a M.S. degree in Commerce and Economics from the University of Vermont. While at NASA, he earned a B.S. degree from the University of Maryland. A recognized athlete, Mr. Steinmetz achieved a scholarship from Bradley University in track and also excelled in baseball. Friends may call from 8 to 9 a.m. on Saturday December 29, 2012 at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 214 Nassau St., Princeton, NJ 08542.
Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery behind the church. No flowers please.
