CARMELO JOSEPH PLUCHINO "Pooch"

On passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2013 the morning of his 90th birthday. surrounded by his loving family in Durham, NC. Carl was born and raised in Corona neighborhood of Queens New York and was a World War II veteran. Upon coming to Washington, DC after the War, he married Afine Ann Cristaldi. Carl is survived by sons Carl, Anthony, Joseph, Michael and daughter Angela. He had five nieces and five nephews and was grandfather to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as many relatives and friends throughout the country. Carl was an independent cabdriver in Washington, DC for over 40 years; where he was known to his follow drivers as "Pooch". He was very active throughout the 1960's as a coach of youth sports teams, associated with Cub Scout Pack 90 at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament School in Washington, DC. Interment and Services at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Durham VA Medical Center, attn. Voluntary Services, 508 Fulton Street, Durham, NC 27705 in memory of Carmelo Joseph Pluchino.
