CHARLES PHILLIP YANCHULIS "Phil" (Age 72)
Of Fredericksburg, beloved husband, father and "Grandad", died peacefully on January 6, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
Born June 28, 1940, in Washington, D.C., Phil was a graduate of Gonzaga College High School and always expressed his admiration for the Jesuits and the lessons they shared with their students. He was a dedicated family man and worker who spent his working career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as a supervisor. In retirement, he worked at The Pool Company in Fredericksburg, where he relocated in 1993.
Phil and his wife, Nita, raised their four children in Clinton, MD, where they were active members of St. John's the Evangelist Church. He enjoyed sports whether as a player, coach or spectator. He learned his love of sports from his father, a decorated college football player and renowned referee. He imparted this love to his four sons, and he was never prouder than watching them compete.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nita nee Rosinski, of Fredericksburg; sons, Phillip J. and Julie G. of Herndon, VA., Michael P. and Colleen O'Neill of Arnold, MD., Jon A. and Mary F. and of King George, VA., and Charles D. and Lisa A. of Saint Inigoes, MD.; 12 grandchildren whom he adored Kate, Jeanne Marie, Kelly, Bryan, Molly, Jimmy, Meghan, Maggie, Lauren, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Peter; sister-in-law, Patricia Rosinski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marian Yanchulis; his sister, Joann Yanchulis O'Conner; brothers-in-law, James J. O'Connor and Paul M. Rosinski; and sister-in-law, Dorothy M. Rosinki.
Family will receive friends Friday, January 11, 2013 from 11 to 1:30 p.m. at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg, VA. 22401. A funeral mass will follow at 2 p.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fredericksburg. A reception follows the Mass in the church hall. Burial will be private.
