Dale and I first got acquianted in 1987 where we were both partners at the law firm, Willkie Farr & Gallagher. He was kind and open to me in ways that are not always characteristic of big time lawyers. Both of us subsequently left the firm but we remained in contact until the last couple of years. Dale's obituary in the Washington Post speaks primarily of his professional accomplishments which were extradinary. But it doesn't speak to what really made Dale so special. He was an original. A big fat brain combined with a kind and gentle soul, a robust love of life, a passion for music and the arts and a sharp sense of humor combined with an ability not to take himself too seriously. He marched to the beat of his own drummer while thriving in a professional world full of conformity. May his spirit make music forever.
