DANIEL CHESIVOIR

Longtime resident of Rancho Santa Fe, CA died peacefully on October 24, 2012 at San Diego Hospice. Dan was born in Alexandria, VA. His father, Bernard, died while Dan was a baby. He and his sisters, Evelyn and Peggy, were raised in DC by parents, Sarah and Louis Brooks. Dan graduated from Anacostia High School before enlisting in the Merchant Marines and serving in the North Atlantic during WWII. He married Rhona Trager in 1952, worked in the family retail and real estate businesses, and had two children. In 1977, Dan and Rhona relocated to San Diego, where Dan served as President of his Homeowner's Board, and as Chairman of the San Dieguito Planning Board. Dan loved his family and friends, and enjoyed travel, boating, scuba diving, bridge, tennis, poker, theater, film, TV, and fast cars. His kindness, humor and generosity will be long remembered. Dan is survived by his sister, Peggy Brooks Smith of DC; and his children, Sheryl (Sid Shapira), of San Diego, CA and Brad (Carole Klein) and their children, Zane, Eve, and Beau of Bethesda, MD. Dan's loving wife, Rhona, and his sister, Evelyn, predeceased him. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at his son's home on November 24 at 2 p.m. Donations in Dan's memory can be made to Parkinson's Association of San Diego.
