DANIEL T. KOEPENICK
Daniel Thurn Koepenick, 68, died at Lynchburg General Hospital in Virginia from complications caused by sarcoidosis. A volunteer at the White House for five Presidents his career included employment for over two decades at National Permanent Savings & Loan and Government Services Administration in Washington, DC. Overcoming mental and physical challenges from birth, including epilepsy, he developed a photographic memory, allowing him to recall personal and public events in detail. His life long hobby was duckpin bowling. Even in his dying days, he continued to take an interest in those around him, and engage them in lively conversation. A resident of Potomac for most of his life Dan was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Church where he ushered for 20 years. Prior to moving to Lynchburg in 2012, he lived at Byron House. Surviving him are his three brothers, Edward of Lynchburg, VA, Gary of Potomac, MD and Martin of Atlanta, GA; their wives and their children. Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD 20854 on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Epilepsy Foundation, Attn: Donor Services #8232, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD 20785-7223.
