David Martin Baughan died peacefully after a long battle with cancer on December 9, 2012. He was born to Robert and Eleanor Baughan in Chelsea, Massachusetts on February 13, 1949. A graduate of Harvard University, he served two years in the Navy before going to West Virginia Medical School to become a family practice physician. He practiced in various locations until he finally settled in Olympia and joined the Group Health Cooperative. An advocate for health care reform, he appeared on local television programs to represent that cause.
In addition to his practice of medicine, his life-long passion was writing and acting. He was active in drama from high school through college and most recently wrote, directed, and acted in the play The Basketweaver, performed by the Olympia Little Theater in February of 2011. David was also an avid hiker and camper. He was most at home when he could be out in nature with his partner, Kelly Gallemore.
David is survived by his parents; his son, Jeremie; his daughter, Bristol; his partner, Kelly, and his brothers, George and Tom.
David's life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Saturday, February 16 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Redeemer, 145 W. Springfield Rd. in Springfield, PA 19064. There will be a luncheon immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Olympia Little Theater, 1925 Miller Avenue NE, Olympia, WA 98506 or the Harlequin Theater, 202 4th Avenue East, Olympia, WA 98501.
