Dora was one the nicest people I have known in my life. As a coworker, I have seen Dora up close and I appreciate her hard work and love of people. We lost a great lady and and a friend. May Allah bless her soul. We are from God and to God we shall return. Amen.

Dora gave professional voice to great language groups that were undertaught, prophetic voice for social justice with dignity for all, and persistent voice compassionate care for the ecumenical community dancing in steps of change. Thank you Dora for embodying hope through your voice, heart, mind and open arms. Thank you, Alicia and Martin, for sharing your Mom so graciously.

Reading about Dora's passing brought back a wave of memories for me. She was one person who you could count on for proper guidance, even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear, it was advice you needed. There aren't many people like that on this earth and now there are fewer. As I think about her the one image I keep seeing is her walking with her dog Bailey through the neighborhood. I know her legacy will live on in all those who had the privilege of her friendship.

Dora always dealt out advice to new Arabic teachers with humor, kindness, and a balance between idealism and reality. We will miss her so much.

Dear Martin and Alicia:
I just cannot believe that Dora is gone. My heart aches with the fact that I can no longer feel her loving embrace nor hear her hearty laughter.
I regret not staying in touch with her over the past recent years, but I cherish the years my family and I have known her. She was a pillar of strength and support for my parents (Dr. and Mrs. Zekin Shakhashiri) in their joint work in support of BCW and AUB. Her energy was limitless and her selfless dedication was beyond compare.
I relished and admired her ability to always think positively and never let anything get her (and us)down. She inspired us with her humility and touched us deeply with her all-loving heart.
May you find solace in knowing that our lives were made better by Dora, that she was a unique and precious person, and that we share with you most painfully her premature loss.
Very sadly but with lots of love,
Maha Shakhashiri
