Dos Schuette passed away on May 2, 2013 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She was 64 years old. Born in Illinois and raised in Manchester, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late George and Maxine Schuette. She was a graduate of Coffee County Central HS and received her bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Alan Rubin; two sisters, Marilyn Schuette of Oak Ridge, TN, and Linda Moss of Longview, TX; a nephew Dean Willis and step-children Jennifer and David Rubin.
Ms. Schuette worked as a writer, editor and graphic designer in St. Louis, Knoxville and Washington, DC. She lived in Arlington, VA, for 25 years. Most of her working career was spent in DC with the National Association of Broadcasters as vice president for communications. During her tenure at NAB, the department received numerous honors and awards for graphic design work. She enjoyed gardening and was a loyal volunteer for the Capital Caring (formerly the Hospice of Northern Virginia) landscaping committee since 1986. She worked in the award-winning gardens nearly every weekend and continued to volunteer occasionally after moving to Pennsylvania in 2004. In younger days, she was a loyal Girl Scout, spending her college summers as a camp counselor. She was honored to be selected as a delegate to the Girl Scout Senior Roundup in 1965, meeting in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. Following retirement, she and her husband Alan enjoyed traveling - they explored many Eastern and Western European countries as well as Alaska and Canada.
A memorial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 10 a.m. For those wishing to attend, please arrive at the cemetery by 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial gifts to the Capital Caring Halquist Landscape Fund, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, VA 22042.
