Of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Edward M. Hall entered into eternal rest Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Her funeral service will be held December 29 at 11 a.m. in The Chapel at Bishop Gadsden.
Dorothy was born August 16, 1918 in Mullins, South Carolina, the daughter of Troy Carroll Atkinson and Evelyn Rowell Atkinson. She graduated from Appalachian State College. She had a long career including 10 years in Federal Service (FBI) and 35 years as a school teacher in the Montgomery County School System, Bethesda, Maryland. She retired to Charleston in 2003. She was a member of Charleston County Retired Educators Association and the Fort Johnson Baptist Church.
"Dot" will be remembered as one with an endless eagerness to learn. She always had a new book to read and then share. She was energetic and dedicated to exercise and health. She was recognized by MUSC as a Senior Mentor to Medical Students. She spent her life helping young people fulfill their dreams. Dot loved her friends and family. She will be missed.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Sarah Jeanette Hough of Gilbert, AZ; three sisters, Miriam A. Donovan (John) of Silver Spring, MD, Olive A. Nissen (Elgie) of Marion, SC, Gwen McCurdy (Layton) of Charleston, SC and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to Bishop Gadsden Resident Assistance Fund, 1 Bishop Gadsden Way, Charleston, SC 29412.
