Mary and Laura,

I was both shocked and deeply chagrined to learn of Larry's untimely death. We hadn't spoke in many years but that didn't make my feelings for the man any less. He was always a vibrant person - a ray of hope in a darkened world when I first met him at major crimes in the US Attorney's office. I cooperated with him and the bureau on the Wilson trials and never felt like a second citizen because of my past association with Wilson - in fact - he treated me like any other person - not some good catholic boy gone bad. I have been in a stupor over his death and my heart goes out to you and Laura in this trying time

Mary & Laura,
I am deeply saddened to just discover Larry's passing. Not hearing from him for so long and fearing to email him of his health status, I googled only to find his obituary.
Larry & I met while he was at Dartmouth and needless to say, one of my favorite & memorable people in my life always fun, full of good sound advice and humor.
He spoke much in the past few years of you both, Laura (San Francisco also my home of 10 yrs.) & Mary (while you were living in Boston, my hometown).
We actually reconnected just about the time Larry was diagnosed.
My best friends who are from Modesto, CA and Costa Rica got to see him when on a visit to D.C. during the playoffs of the Red Sox...needless to say, they had bets and the payoff was WINE!
My glass is raised to an amazing man and friend who has never been forgotten!

Dear Mary,

I was shocked to read about Larry. If you don't remember who i am, i was your live-in in my senior year at AU in 1981. I took care of Laura when she was 4. My fondest memory of Larry was when he hooked me with The Bourne Identity. He realized i was not coming to dinner when you called because i could not put the book down. To this day Robert Ludlum is still my favorite author. My thoughts are with you and Laura. Take comfort in the support and love of others.

I remember Lawrie coming "home" to Connecticut to visit when I was a little girl. He always made time for me. In later years when he came to visit, he always made time to get to know my children. Larry could always make you smile..he was witty, intelligent and always fun to be around. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

Dear Andrea,
My brother, Peter De Lorenzo, and I send our deepest sympathy to you and Larry's entire family. What a great loss. Peter spoke to Larry in the last year.

While each of our parents are deceased, I just wanted you to know how much we loved you Mom and Dad. We had many happy memories, living on the same street, in Bloomfield Hills, and in our visits to Washington.

Love,
Annette De Lorenzo

Larry was the first person that I met on my first day of college. My parents had just dropped me off at the dorm and had said goodbye. Larry, a sophomore, walked down the hall and said "welcome to Dartmouth" with a can of beer held out to me. While I was in law school, he helped me get a summer job working with him at the U.S. Attorney's Office in D.C. I didn't stay in close touch with him through our respective legal careers, but frequently heard about what he was up to through my friends in the very close knit network of AUSAs. Larry was extremely well liked and highly respected by everyone in that group. I will miss him.

I was deeply sadden to hear of your passing on home to be with your Lord and saviour. But when I think about your life here on this earth, you were truly a blessing and you touch the lives of many many people. I can truly say that you and Mary was good to my mother Luberta Bynum and you also touch the lives of her and her family. You are going to be missed. May peace and grace go out to Family, Love ones and friends.

I attended St. Michaels grade school in
Silver Spring with "Lawre" He was one of my best grade school buds. I use to play with him and our other best friend Danny McKenna. We were the 3 Musketeers! We had our 50th grade school reunion last fall (2009) and Danny and my one regret was not being able to see Larry. We will keep him in our prayers and my sincere sympathy to his family. Karl

I knew Larry before he was "Larry", for twenty-five years I had to stop and think so I didn't call him "Lawrie" the name he went by as a boy. He was the person who always had a good story, from having lunch with Annette Funicello when in LA in 1960 for the Democratic Convention which nominated Kennedy, to his adventures as an AUSA.
Larry had big dreams, and through hard work and intelligence, he made them come true. My sincere sympathy to Mary, Laura and Andrea.

May the God of all comfort, comfort the family and friends of E. Lawrence Barcella. Psalm 34:18 assures us that the God of all comfort is near those broken at heart and crushed in spirit he saves.

I met Larry years ago while resarching a book on two rogue former intelligence offiers who he was prosecuting -- Edwin Wilson and Frank Terpil. Given the internation scope of the case, and a tangled factual situation, the case was a tough one. But Larry pressed on. He had the personal sklls to elicit what he needed from some "cooperating witnesses" who were part and parcel of the various crimes, and he won jury convictions in three jurisdictions. Larry showed a keen sense of ethics through, in terms of what he could or could not reveal to me. Thankfully, the record sufficed to tell the story. But as a lon-time lawyer watcher, I admired the tenacity with which he and a colleague pursued a very intricate case. Rest in peace, good man

My sincere condolences to the Barcella Family.
I remember the statement made to me by Larry the 1st time I met him when he was a young AUSA in the Major Crimes Unit.
"Bring me the Probable Cause, & I'll get you the warrant"
He was definitly one of the best & more importantly a good man.
He will be missed.

Larry was a hero to me he never turned down my telephone calls from my home or prison. He would listen or we would just chat about "penciles in the office ceiling or Jack Daniels". He cared. He is now seated on the Supreme Court. I bless the fact hen was in my life. Blessing and Peace to his family. JMCE
