EDWARD McKEON Obituary


EDWARD J. McKEON  
Died on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at his Chevy Chase, MD, home after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 66 years old. Ed served his country with distinction for 37 years as a Foreign Service Officer, including postings as United States Embassy to Mexico's Minister-Counselor for Consular Affairs, Consul General in the U.S. Embassies in Tokyo and Tel Aviv, and Consul-General and Principal Officer in the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou. Following his State retirement, he worked for Envoy International LLC, consulting with Major League Baseball.Ed is survived by his beloved sons. Max Albert Ashby McKeon and Benjamin Makoto Ashby McKeon. His partner of 34 years (husband beginning 2008), Harold J. Ashby, Jr., predeceased him in 2014. He is also survived by eight siblings, John (Liz), Maureen, Joseph, Kevin (Christine), Robert (Eileen), Thomas (Denise), Roman (Rose) and Jim (Stephanie); and many loving nieces and nephews. His parents Edward and Ramona McKeon predeceased him.Ed's first marriage to Robin Ritterhoff ended amicably in 1979, and their deep friendship continued unabated. Her family mourns him as a beloved brother-in-law.Ed was greatly loved and is sorely missed by those mentioned here, together with an implausibly large number of friends, neighbors and former colleagues on five continents.A celebration of Ed's life will take place on Monday, October 9, 11:30 a.m., at Audubon's Woodend Nature Sanctuary, 8940 Jones Mill Road, Chevy Chase, MD.
