On Thursday, January 17, 2013 Eleanor passed away. Eleanor was born April 9, 1922 in New Haven, CT to Louise Mullen and John Edwin Leahy. Eleanor worked for the State Department in Algeria and France during World War II. After World War II she worked with the USO in Rome, arranging audiences with Pope Pius XII for the troops. She then worked with the Red Cross and the U.S.O. in south Korea, both during and after the Korean War. She came back to the U.S.A., working with the U.S.O. in Georgia and Massachusetts. She continued her work in the Washington, DC area until she married her loving husband, the late US Army Corporal, Paul Ruley, on December 19, 1964 and helped raise his two sons, Yanik and Yvan, in Hawaii. In 2002, she moved back to the DC area to be near her sisters and relatives. She leaves behind her two stepsons (mentioned above) and daughter-in-law, Martha; granddaughter, Daniele; three sisters, Lucille Henderson, Jean Caffes, and Joan Bean; nieces; nephews; great nieces; and great nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Chapel, 16501 Annapolis Rd., Bowie, MD on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
