(Age 83)

Passed away peacefully at home on Monday morning, February 4, 2013 in Orlando FL. Her beloved husband of 60 years, Bob, was at her side.
Born June 29, 1929, she grew up and went to high school in Chuckatuck, VA before moving in 1947 to Washington, DC. In 1997 she moved to Orlando to be closer to young grandchildren who adored her.
In addition to her husband, Bob, family surviving her include her sister, Katie; two sons, Michael and Jim (Eileen); daughter, Diane (Pete); six loving grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Betty was a fierce advocate for the underserved in her community as well as a dedicated supporter of the arts.
A celebration of her life will be held at a private family gathering later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Ellington Fund, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, 3500 R Street, NW Washington, DC 20007; or to the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, Byrd brothers' funds: Peabody Development Office, One East Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore, MD 21202.
