A Life Well Lived

On Sunday, December 18, 2011, Elzatah Belle peacefully passed at the Washington Home after a long illness. How lucky you were if you had the joy of knowing "Miss Belle," as she was affectionately known. Eager to spread joy and laughs to those around her, not to mention a few pounds to those who were lucky enough to experience infamous fried pies and butter pound cakes.
A passion for fashion, Miss Belle was a life-long lover of stylish hats and could be seen in the pews on any given Sunday wearing one at Pilgrim A.M.E. Church of Washington, or Flat Rock A.M.E. Church in Fayetteville, Georgia, where she held dual memberships.
Miss Belle is survived by daughters Jeanne Clarke Harris of Washington, DC, and Carrietta Butts of Fayetteville Georgia, son-in-law, Dwight Butts; and granddaughters, Tiffany and Alexia Butts. A memorial service will be held at The Pilgrim A.M.E. Church, 612 17th St. N.E., Washington, DC on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 12 p.m. Services by STEWART FUNERAL HOME.
