EMANUEL JOHN PAPPAFOTIS  
"Mike"  
March 31, 1926 - August 2, 2012  
 

Emanuel John (Mike) Pappafotis, age 86, passed away Thursday August 2, 2012 at the Hospice Home of Burlington, NC. A native of Washington, DC, he was the son of John Spero and Anne Korre Pappafotis and husband of the late Christine Stephenson Pappafotis to whom he was married for 53 years.
 
Mike was a proud Army Air Force Veteran of WWII. He grew up in Washington, DC where he was an all-city multi-sport star athlete at Eastern High School and at the Central Branch Boys Club including Golden Gloves boxer and soap box derby winner. He was proud to be recognized in 2003 in the local "Jocks Hall of Fame" from the 1940's.
 
He raised his family and retired in Columbus, GA, where he was a founding member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. He was retired from Overnight Transportation, was a past president of the Traffic Club of Columbus and an active member of the Valley Seniors Golf Association.
 
He loved to walk, play golf, fish and spend time with his family. He always carried a smile and lit up the room when he entered. Mike was a happy man and everyone who knew him loved him.
 
Survivors include four siblings, Spero Pappafotis, George Pappafotis, Dena Melzer and Toby Kinnahan; dozens of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews all of the Washington, DC area; three children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grand-children.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Chris and his sister, Mary Pappafotis.
 
A memorial service was held Saturday, August 4 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, Burlington, NC by Rev. Fr. George P. Vlahos.
 
The funeral was held Monday, August 6 (on the Feast Day) of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Columbus, GA by Rev. Fr. David Hudson; and the Interment immediately followed.
