Passed peacefully from this life on to eternal life on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the age of 106. She resided from 2000 to the present at the Ingleside Retirement Community (Rock Creek) in Washington, DC. Her husband, F. Stuart Tingley, died in 1981. Ethel was born in 1906 in Columbus, Ohio, of Anna and Thomas Richards. Her brother, John G. Richards of Columbus, pre-deceased her. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, and worked to help support her widowed mother through the early years of the Great Depression. After she and Stuart married in Columbus, she moved to the Tingley family home in Washington, DC, where she lived until 1976. A kind and loving wife and mother, she leaves behind her two loving sons Richard and John, a loving daughter-in-law (Dianne, wife of John), and three grandchildren- David, Lindsay, and Andrew. Visitation will be Thursday evening, January 17 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Gawler's Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at the National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave., NW, Washington, DC, on Friday January 18 at 11 a.m., preceded by viewing there from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Following a reception for family and friends, a private interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD. A memorial service at the Ingleside Retirement Community (Rock Creek) will be scheduled at a later date. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to The National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20016.
