POLING EVA S. POLING (Age 93) Died on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. She lived independently until the time of her massive stroke in her Alexandria townhome. She was a West Virginia native. Eva was the daughter to the late Ford and Carrie Mae Shamblem. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Poling, of Mannington West Virginia and her sister-In-Law, Eileen Parks Snodgress. Eva married Charles Poling when she was 18 years old. Eva moved to Washington D.C. during WWII to work for the War Department (Department of Defense) while her husband Charles was in Army serving in Europe under Gen. George Patton. She and Charlie stayed in Washington DC and later moved to Alexandria Virginia in the early 1950's. After WWII, Eva employed by local HVAC contractor and later hired by the Pension and Welfare Funds for the Plumbers and Steamfitters....and later for Mechanical Contractors D.C. Association, located in Washington D.C. Long-time resident of Alexandria, Virginia and was active in supporting the animal welfare including the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION - NATIONAL PRESIDENT (volunteer non-compensated position.) Eva Poling installed as National President of the 6,000 - membership association on September 22, 1973. MECHANICAL CONTRACTORS D.C. ASSOCIATION (NOW MCA METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON) - EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT Eva Poling served as Executive Vice-President of MCDCA from August 1972 until her retirement in 1987. A memorial service will be held at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 on Sunday, July 22 at 3 p.m. A memorial in Eva's name has been established at the Alexandria Animal Welfare League. Individuals interested in making memorial contributions can do so one of the following ways: 1.
