On Monday, April 8, 2013, Evalyn Cheesman, 87, of Germantown, MD, also resided in Olney, MD. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Col. Thomas Cheesman, and her husband of 33 years, Dr. Edward Longley. Evalyn is survived by her sisters Marian Bushong and Claire Sterling, her brother Gordon DeFord, children Nancy Weichbrod (Richard), Suzanne Longley Morton (Randall), Cynthia Kehr (Alan), grandchildren Brett Weichbrod (Kelly), Kevin Weichbrod, Wesley Morton, Ava Morton, Emily Collingham (Matt), Lianne Appelt (Chris), and great granddaughter Elena Appelt.
Evalyn was born at home in Bedford, IN. She attended the University of Maryland where she earned a Bachelor's degree (with high honors) and a Master's degree in Education. She taught English for 20 years in the Montgomery County Public school system at Robert E. Peary High School, Earl B. Wood Middle School, and Gaithersburg Middle School. She retired in 1986 and enjoyed her time in Maryland and in Venice, FL. She loved to dance, was an avid tennis player, and always enjoyed entertaining.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, May 11 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at her daughter Cynthia's home in Monrovia, MD. Arrangements entrusted to Edward Sagel Funeral Direction, Inc. 1091 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD (301) 217-9400. A sharing time will begin at 2:30 p.m. Interment at Arlington Cemetery, TBD.
