F. CLEO SPARTIN
Flavia Cleo Spartin of Grasonville, MD passed away peacefully at her home on February 19, 2013.
Born in New York, NY on September 15, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Flaviano Coletta and Mary Caselle Coletta. She worked as a chemist for Dow Chemical and DuPont before putting her career on hold to raise her family. Once her children were older, she enjoyed a second career with the Federal Government, holding executive positions at the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Government Printing Office. She graduated from Queens College in 1955 at the age of 19, where she was Valedictorian of her graduating class.
She is survived by her children: David Spartin and his wife, Lisa, of Wilmington, DE; Steven Spartin and his wife, Jennifer, of Glendale, CA; Peter Spartin and his wife, Debbie, of Washington, DC; and Wilma Rowe and her husband, Todd, of Cockeysville, MD; 11 grandchildren: Steven Jr., Bill, Matt, Anthony, Nick, Peter, Caroline, Kenny, Jamie, Will, Ryan; Bill Spartin; and her dog, Maggie Mae, all of whom she loved dearly and unconditionally. She was preceded in death by a sister, Alba Mangone, and a brother, Vincent Coletta.
Granny loved life and surrounding herself with her grandchildren and her pets - from dalmatians, poodles, and sheep dogs, to parrots and ducks, she loved them all. She also enjoyed working with her hands to make pottery, knit and needlepoint, as well as traveling, listening to music, and spending time at the beach or on the water sailing and boating.
The family will be holding a small private celebration of granny's life and her amazing contributions.
