FRANCA CANDIOLI ROBBIN
On Sunday, October 28, 2012, Franca Candioli Robbin died quietly at her home in Galena, MD, where she was being cared for by her loving husband of 62 years, Jonathan E. Robbin (the founder of Claritas Corp. in Rosslyn, VA). Mrs. Robbin, daughter of Dott. Umberto and Fernanda Fiory Candioli, was born in Rome, Italy on July 20, 1926 and emigrated to the United States in 1951 after her marriage to Mr. Robbin in the church of S. Francesca Romana in Rome. She was educated at the Istituto Scolastico Nazereth and the renowned Istituto Suore dell' Assunzione and studied English languange and literature at the British Institute in Rome. She was trained as an actress at the Accademia Nazionale D'Arte Dramatica and Istituto Esperimentale del Teatro of Silvio d'Amico also in Rome. During 1946-48 she played leading roles on the stage in a number of productions, including Italian adaptations of "Our Town" and "The Petrified Forest." She was a rarity - a lovely, elegant, bright, cultivated and affectionate auburn-haired and freckled Italian signora whose warmth, intelligence, openness and amiability delighted all that knew her. She adored the theatre, ballet, art, music, history, travel and Italian haute cuisine. Besides her husband, she leaves her children, Francesca Robbin Delle, Adrian Craig Robbin and Maria Robbin Hudgins. Another son, Bradley Paul Robbin was deceased in 1994 at age 38. She also leaves five grandchildren, Paul and Jaclyn Delle (children of Francesca Robbin and Paul Delle, Colin and Michael Hudgins (children of Maria Robbin and Robert Hudgins) and Jimi Robbin (child of Sheryl Reinekka and Adrian Robbin) and three great-grandchildren, Carmen and Victoria Hudgins (twin daughters of Colin and Cindy Day Hudgins) and Ty Hudgins, (son of Michael and Cara Jackson Hudgins). In Rome, Italy she leaves her dear aunt Mariagianna Fiory and family and beloved cousin Luciana Fiory Nervi and family as well as many other relatives and friends, particularly Sandro and Gianna Frizzi Balla. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated on November 2, 2012 at St. Dennis Church in Galena, MD and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 5 p.m. at The Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, MD. All her friends in the Bethesda and Washington, DC area where she lived for 38 years are welcome to attend.
