Senior Journalist  

Frances Reading Glennon of Washington, DC died on December 10, 2012 from a heart failure. She was born on February 6, 1925 in Port Gibson, MS. The youngest of five children, she was the daughter of May Redus Glennon and Harrison Randolph Glennon, and the granddaughter of Admiral and Mrs. James Glennon, long time Washington residents. She grew up in Forest Hills, New York and then graduated from University of Michigan with a BA degree in Economics. Further studies included a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies at Yale University. She was one of the first women to have a professional career in journalism when she joined Time Inc. in the late 1940s. Starting in the advertising section of Life Magazine, she became an Associate Editor. Later Fran served on the editorial board of Time Life Books and the Smithsonian Magazine. She is survived by eight devoted nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on December 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church Georgetown, 31st and O Streets, N.W., Washington, DC. As an alternative to flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Community Health Outreach, 5042 Timuquana Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32210, Attn: The Reverend Canon Tony Ferguson.
