Lieutenant Colonel Francis J. McIlvaine, USAF (Ret.), passed away Saturday, December 15 at the North West Louisiana War Veterans Home, Bossier City, Louisiana.
Colonel McIlvaine, 81, beloved husband and father was born in Freehold, New Jersey and was a resident of Zwolle, Louisiana. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and Michigan State University.
He spent twenty years as a Accounting and Finance Officer in the USAF. He was also a Certified Public Accountant and worked at various banks and had a home-based business. Throughout his careers, he taught (which was his life and passion) at Air Force Bases around the world and after retirement at various universities. He loved traveling and spent many wonderful weeks and months seeing the United States, Canada and the countries in which he was stationed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Marion McIlvaine; and sister Bernice Parker and her husband Richard.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet Pray McIlvaine; son, Dean J. McIlvaine and wife Helen S. of Alexandria, Virginia; daughters, Shawn S. Alverson and husband Larry J. of Waldorf, Maryland and Sharon M. Land of Suffolk, Virginia; sister Margaret Clayton and husband Walter of Freehold, New Jersey; grandchildren Westrick J. McIlvaine, Joseph D. McIlvaine, Kenneth L. McIlvaine, Elias E. McIlvaine, Khara S. Cunningham, Haylee M. Green and husband Daniel, Taryn L. Alverson, Dawn V. Alverson, Joshua L. Alverson, Matthew B. Land, Caitlin A. Land; great-grandchildren Tyler J. Becker, Emily S. Cunningham, and a host of other family and friends.
Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia 22211 at a future date.
