GENE EVERETT GROGAN (Age 81)

A resident of Potomac, Maryland died November 20, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janis Grogan, of Potomac, Patrick Grogan and his wife, Dana, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lisa Grogan Sams and her husband, Jim, of Bethesda, Maryland, Suzanne Grogan Lipscomb and her husband, Jay, of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Grogan, Tulsa, OK, Clay Grogan and his wife, Courtney, Tulsa, OK, Claire Sams, Bethesda, MD, James Sams, Bethesda, MD, Will Lipscomb, Lisa Lipscomb and Maggie Lipscomb of Dallas, TX. Mr. Grogan was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Hurst. Mr. Grogan served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a 1st Lieutenant during The Korean War 1952-53. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1957 with a B.S. in Geological Engineering. He joined Cities Service Oil Company in 1957, continuing with Occidental Petroleum when the companies merged in 1983. During his career, Mr. Grogan was President and General Manager for Europe and North Africa based in London, President and General Manager in Colombia, President and General Manager in Kenya, Vice President and General Manager in Aberdeen, Scotland and President and General Manager in Oman. He retired in 1996 as Vice President Eastern Hemisphere Operations for Occidental Petroleum. Services for Mr. Grogan will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2 p.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 3001 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Alban's Episcopal Church, or The University of Oklahoma Foundation, 100 Timberdell Road, Norman, OK 73019-0685.
