GENE R. BARBOUR
Of Manassas, VA passed away unexpectedly on November 21, 2012. Gene was born in Johnston County, NC on April 22, 1941. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Arthur Barbour and two brothers, Larry and Johnny Barbour. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sue Barbour; his son, Anthony Barbour and daughter-in-law, Tamie Barbour; his daughter, Andrea Reid and son-in-law, Michael Reid; five grandchildren, Megan Barbour, Kaitlyn Barbour, Kyle Barbour, Collin Reid and Alexandra Reid, all from the Northern Virginia area; his mother, Lottie Lynn Barbour of Four Oaks, NC; and a sister, Dr. Diana Greene of Houston, TX. Gene grew up in Four Oaks, NC. He attended Presbyterian Junior College on a baseball scholarship and graduated from St. Andrews with a degree in business administration, before going to work for GE Credit for eight years. He changed careers in 1970 to become a self-employed Interstate Battery Distributor. He owned Interstate Batteries of Northern Virginia for 42 years before retiring in April, 2012. He was considered a leader and mentor in his profession. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, working and spending time with his family. The family will receive friends at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, VA on Sunday, November 25, 2012 from 4 to 6 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment Stonewall Memory Gardens.
