George Thompson Churchill, 90, a retired Foreign Service Officer and stained glass artist at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, died peacefully in his sleep at home on November 26, 2012. Mr. Churchill was a resident of Falls Church and Alexandria, Virginia for 41 years. Survivors include his wife of 9 years, the former Marlene Lovelace Shaw; five children from his marriage with Nancy Elizabeth Goss, who predeceased him in 1977: David (Barbara Pierce) of Washington, Paul (Eileen Fisher) of Westminster, MD, George (Susan Hodgman) of Reno, NV, Anne (Thomas Rau) of Roundhead, OH, and Steven of Hillsborough, NC. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Rebecca (Jason Sterling), David (Melissa Haegele), Robert, Alan (Kristina Wilson), George, Griffin, Amanda, Ezekiel, Molly, and Coleman and by five great- grandchildren: Cheyenne, Atlas, Avery and twins Thomas and Benjamin. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church, 1909 Windmill Lane, Alexandria, VA. 22307. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be directed to Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church.
