Geraldine Englund Obituary

GERALDINE M. ENGLUND "Gerry"
On Tuesday, February 22, 2011. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she became a nurse and entered the Navy during WW2, where she met and married Merrill W. (Brit) Englund in 1946. They lived in California and Montana before moving to Wheaton in the early 1950s. She raised three children, Eric (Jane), Gretchen (David) Koitz and Karl (Marcia) and worked in nursing until Brit died suddenly in 1976. She then reinvented herself and became a travel agent and later a devoted grandmother to Jon, Jay, Jason, Kevin and Brit. She is also survived by three great grand-daughters. Gerry loved music, theatre, sewing, fiber arts, travel and especially her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Gretchen, Eric and Karl, I'm so sorry to hear of Gerry's death. Your Mom was a real part of the Hammond Wood community and a friend for more than 50 years. Before her illness she was one of our grandmothers reading group. Besides reading it was a way to stay in touch with old friends and we've missed Gerry these last few years .
No matter how hard its been to see her decline and no matter how old you are I know how painful it is to lose your mother. I believe that her immortality is in the people who loved her and in the good works she did - all of which she had and did in abundance
