13 years tomorrow and it still feels like you were just called home. I´m blessed to have had you for the time I did. I was blessed you chose me to be your daughter. I was blessed to have shared everything we did. You are my Mother, Mom, Ma, G and my best friend. I miss you more than anything in this world and Lord knows what I would do just to be able to wrap my arms around you one more time. Know I´m trying my best to continue to live a meaningful life and make you proud. There is none like you. They way you taught and cares for your students and other future leaders who didn´t belong to you. You were one of a kind! The best! The most phenomenal woman I´ve even seen or met! I love you Queen and I miss you. Your body may be gone but I know you are here with me everyday and you are NOT forgotten.

Dear Erika and Cobbs family,
I recently heard about the passing of your mom, Mrs. Cobbs. She showed so much love and patience for me at SWW as she guided me in class and in applying for scholarships and college. May the God of all comfort and joy fill your hearts even now.

My dearest Mother,
Words can't describe how I feel everyday. I miss our phone calls during my ride to work, on my morning break, lunch hour, afternoon break, on my ride home and after I got home. I miss your laugh and the anticipation of picking you up from the airport or the anticipation of you waiting on me at Little Rock airport. I miss hugging you and tickling you when I kiss your neck.
You are my world and I'm so lost without you. I don't know how I'm managing to go about my day everyday but I guess somewhere deep down you are giving me the strenghth. I know you are in a better place than me but I still wish you were down here on this earth with me. Call me selfish but I can't help it. I wasn't ready for you to go and I still can't believe it or get over it. People say all the time that it will get better. Maybe that's true, but the love we had for one another most people will NEVER experience with their parent or parents.
Mommy, I thank you for being my inspiration, motivation, heart, soul, my everything and more. I can't put into words right now what you mean to me & how much you mean to me. I love you. You are unforgettable.
Love,
Your daughter Erika

Dear Ma Cobbs ~ Words could not come to me on the day we set you free. But I'd like to take the time to say thank you for being such a wonderful mother to me. Your charism and demeanor are characteristics I've always looked up to. I was always amazed at your calmness in any situation. Though we are at a loss, I'm somewhat comforted to know you are at peace. I know that we will all meet again someday - this is the road we will all face. But I hope while I'm here on earth, I make you proud with my actions and works. Thank you for taking me into your home and sharing your love and wisdom with me. I will pass your energy along in my family. And I pray that God will comfort Erika, Marcus, Auntie, and Uncle Harry as they make that journey of mourning. You are one of a kind. I love you always, Naima.

Dear Erica and Cobbs Family, I recently learned of the passing of your mother, my teacher. What a loss for the world and so many young people who will not benefit from her discipline, compassion, knowledge, and wisdom. I am who I am, in part, because of Gloria's concern for me and my well-being when I was one of her students. May God continue to shine on and bless you and your family and comfort you during this time of memory, reflection, and celebration of your mother's accomplishments and legacy.

It would be imposable for me to forget Ms Cobbs. She always had a welcoming smile and spirit when you walked through the doors, into that office of SWW. I had the pleasure of getting to know her in my years there '86-'88. Ms. Cobbs had a way with us (the students) at Walls ... She never treated us as students, she treated us and spoke to us as adults. She shared her wisdom, and guided us in ways that had us thinking and believing we came up with the idea. She will truly be missed, and holds a special place in my heart.

Ms. Cobbs was a woman of high esteem who revered her beloved daughter Ericka and who cared deeply for her mother, as well as her extended family and friends. Ms. Cobbs was conscious, dedicated, bright, tenacious, generous, and very caring. She has left an indelible mark on the minds of many. She was a great contributer to the field of education, and she left a legacy of excellence. I extend my condolences and sympathy to Ericka Cobbs Lee, as well as extended family and friends. May God give you the strength that you need to deal with the loss of an exeptional mother, sister, aunt, and friend.

I do cherish all of the memories of Mrs. Cobbs. One of my most memorable moments was when she had all of the ladies at her home the day of the Million Man March. We talked about the role of the African American Woman and just fellowshiped with one another. We laughed, ate and cried that day. She didn't have to have a house full of young ladies ...but that was just the type of teacher she was. Mrs. Cobbs will truely be missed and Heaven has another beautiful angel looking down on us. My deepest condolences go out to the family. We love you Mrs. Cobbs!!

Ms. Cobbs' loving spirit resides forever in each student she has taught. I experience her intellectual touch with every keystroke, and without her skillful presence in my life a major void would exist. We all will miss her innovation and commitment to excellence; for, she was truly a great person and educator. I am glad to be a part of her everlasting legacy, and my deepest regards to go the Cobbs family and friends.

Hearthfelt sympathy to Erica, the family and to Brenda who was my colleague at DHS. We spent many days and half the nights together at DYCE. Gloria was always so generous of her time, and if a student needed help she was ready. I remember a time when she met Shannon and I at the corner of Bladensburg and South Dakota Ave to give Shannon some notes that she felt would help her with a big History exam. Erica and teaching was her life's joy. I am sure Gloria has left behind many a bright mind. Blessings and Peace, Beverly Emamali-Iglesia (DCYE parent of a Sister in Celebration)

I am so saddened by the news of Mrs. Cobbs' passing. She was a great history and typing teacher at SWW (yes, an original in multitasking, a trademark of SWW's teachers). She and Mrs. Toliver were key in nurturing my love of Black history and Black studies. I remember when she was expecting Erica and how all of us were anticipating her arrival as well. I know there are so many SWW students who love her and who will fondly remember her. Erica, thank you for sharing your wonderful mother with us. We pray that you will find comfort and joy in good memories and your mother's eternal love.

To the Cobbs Family and Erica, specifically, sincere condolences. Your mother was an extremely kind, caring and genuine person. May God shield you at this time and provide the strength I know she consistenly tried to instill. You are in our prayers. Kindle, Courtney and Sherry Richardson...members of your DCYE family.

I would not be the man I am today if it was not for Ms. Cobbs. She had a major impact on my trajectory. My daughter is a beneficiary of Ms. Cobbs efforts to not just teach me, but to teach me how to think, and think for myself.
