HARRY HIRST POTTERFIELD  

Passed away at home in the care of his loving family on Saturday morning, June 9, 2012 at the age of 87. Harry was born on March 14, 1925 in Lovettsville, VA; the son of the late Charles Thomas Potterfield and the late Margarite Hirst Potterfield. Harry served his country in the United States Navy for nearly 3 years during WWII aboard USS Wingfield DE194 and was a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association.
Harry and his beloved wife of 59 years Betty, lived in Vienna, VA, where they raised their only daughter Nancy Astorga. While living in Vienna, they faithfully attended Vienna Presbyterian Church where Harry served as a regular Usher. Harry worked for Amoco as a Territory Manager for 35 years.
Harry and Betty moved to Leesburg in 1979, shortly before Harry's retirement in 1982. He remained active after his retirement befriending many of Loudoun's children employed as a County school bus driver for 18 years.
He served his God, family, church and community as a member of the Lions Club for over 50 years and in 2011 received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the Lions Foundation to honor his dedicated humanitarian services.
Harry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Betty, daughter Nancy Astorga and son in law Fernando Astorga of Leesburg, and two grandchildren Alexis Astorga of Fairfax, and Miguel Astorga of Leesburg.
Friends may call on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm, at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home with Reverend Roland England and Reverend Pete James officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christian Community Church, 12623 Harpers Ferry Road Purcellville, Virginia 20132.
