Helen Weckel Obituary

WECKEL HELEN MARIE WECKEL (Age 92) Helen Marie Weckel, 92, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at her daughter''s home in Burbank, CA. Helen was born on October 10, 1916 in Jersey City, NJ. Her parents, James and Florence Burns moved to Washington, DC, when Helen was in her senior year of high school. Helen had one sister, Florence Britz, deceased and three brothers, James Burns, deceased, Bob Burns, deceased and Don Burns, living in McLean, Virginia. She married Charles Weckel on October 25, 1941. Charles passed away on April 23, 2000. Helen and her family were parishioners of St John Baptist de la Salle in Chillum, MD, since its foundation in 1952, where both Helen and her husband were very active in church functions as well as the Lions Club. Helen was a wonderful homemaker and among her hobbies were crafts, swimming classes, playing cards, entertaining and socializing with her many friends. She is survived by her three children, daughter, Carolyn Kelly, residing in California; daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Jim McLaurin, residing in Virginia; and son and daughter-in-law, George and Cathy Weckel, residing in Maryland. Helen had six grandchildren, Christine Kelly of Los Angeles, CA; Craig Kelly of Washington, DC; August McLaurin of Baltimore, MD; Janette Knoop of Fredricksburg, VA; Holly Weckel and Jesse Weckel of Dunkirk, MD; two great-grandchildren, Dana Raye Weckel and Wesley McLaurin; her brother, Donald Burns, in Virginia and many nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, July 31, at 11 a.m. at St John Baptist de la Salle, 5706 Sargent Road, Chillum, MD. Interment to follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD. www.gaschs.com
