NICOPOULOS HELEN NICOPOULOS Helen "Eleni" Nicopoulos passed away on December 20, 2012, at the Hebrew Home in Rockville, MD, in close proximity to the area where she lived most of her life. She was 75. Helen is lovingly remembered by her two sons and daughter, Jim, George, and Sandy; grandchildren Elena, Tania, Joanna, Alexandra, John, Naiya, and Vaughn; daughters-in-law Kathy and Paulina; son-in-law Todd. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Kosta, Spiro, Kitsa, and Lola. She was born in a small village on the famous island of Lefkada, Greece, located in the Ionian Sea off the west coast of Greece. In the summer of 1956, as part of a National Tribune newspaper contents, a man named John Nicopoulos had won a free trip to Greece. During a visit to the Lefkada, he fell in love with Helen. In 3 short weeks they married in Athens and moved to Washington, D.C. Although she made over 20 trips back to Greece, she remained in the Rockville area. Helen was the proverbial Greek mother. She was strict, proud, and always wanted the best for her children. Helen was a fabulous cook and she loved making perfect meals for her family, three times a day. She insisted her children never move out of the house until they found someone to marry, all the while hinting about how great it would be if they moved in the same neighborhood. Helen was the type that would rather help raise her grandchildren than fully retire. She will always be remembered as selfless, caring, and compassionate. We miss you and we will always love you. The visitation will be held at Pumphrey's Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave, Rockville, MD on December 28, 2012 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 7701 Bradley Boulevard, on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10 a.m. Interment at Parklawn Memorial Park, 12800 Veirs Mill Road Rockville, MD.
