HELEN ROSE TUCKER BAILES  1944 - 2013  
Passed away peacefully on September 14, 2013, after a long battle with cancer, in Fairfax Station, Virginia, where she had lived for two years. Her daughters, Alma and Wendy were with her. She is preceded in death by her parents, John G. and Gene Chastain Tucker of Beaumont, Texas. She is survived by a large family, including her husband, Howard; daughter, Alma Ghalayini and husband, Amer, of Fairfax Station, grandsons, Zackary, Sam, and Ryan; daughter, Wendy Bibb and husband, Todd, of Herndon, and grandsons Tucker and Major. Among her other survivors are her sisters, Ann Iles and husband, Clint, of Beech Mountain, North Carolina and Nancy Kacvinski and husband, Duke, of Palestine, Texas, and their children and grandchildren. Helen was born in Beaumont, Texas, on March 4, 1944, graduated from Beaumont High School in 1962, Converse College in 1966, and earned a Master's Degree from Old Dominion University, in 1974. She had a noteworthy career as a high school math teacher, teaching in Portsmouth, Norfolk and Roanoke, Virginia, for 35 years. Throughout her two and a half year bout with cancer, Helen was optimistic, active, and cheerful, more interested in others than in herself. She loved life and lived joyfully and fully, as long as she could. She has been an inspiration to her family and friends. A lifelong Episcopalian, Helen was a communicant of St. Peter's in the Woods. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Life with Cancer, 8110 Gatehouse Road, Suite 200 East, Falls Church, VA 22042. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter's in the Woods, Fairfax Station, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18.
