Helga Herz Obituary
HERZ HELGA HERZ On February 27, 2010, at age 97. A refugee of Nazi Germany in the 1930''s, Helga lived in France for 10 years before making her home in Detroit, Michigan from 1945-2003. She then moved to Bethesda, MD to be near family. She served as a public librarian in Detroit for 34 years and was a lifelong peace activist. She is survived by several cousins and many good friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Women''s International League for Peace and Freedom ( www.wilpf.org ) or the American Friends Service Committee ( www.afsc.org ). A celebration of her life will be held at River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation, www.rruuc.org , 6301 River Road, Bethesda, MD on April 10, 2010 at 4 p.m.

Helga was my Grandmother Irmi's cousin, I had the privilege of meeting Helga in the 90s when she came to the UK with Diane to visit Irmi. It was amazing to see these two remarkable women, separated for more than 50 years, chatting away in German as if they'd never been apart. Helga & her mother Alice have legendary status with us here in the UK, I'm proud to be a member of Helga's family. Rest in peace.x

Helga, I met you twice in my life, once when I was 9 years of age and again when I was 61. However, my life has been enriched and my spirit enhanced by knowing you. I will forever be proud to be known as a "Second Cousin to Helga Herz".

Dear Helga, although I never met you, hearing about you from Dad and Helen has made you so real, you look so much like Gran (Irmi) or maybe it is the other way around. I will miss hearing about you and will think of you and Gran together, talking away. Love Mandy
