IDA BESS McCANN OLSON (Age 93) World War II, U.S. Navy Nurse
Of Alexandria, VA on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at her home. Wife of the late Iver M. Olson; mother of Martha June Olson Land, Iver M. Olson, II and Linda Sheridan da Silva; and grandmother of Robert Malcolm Cochran. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date and will be posted at www.everlyfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc., 200 N. Glebe Road, Suite 400, Arlington, VA 22203-3728 or the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2701 Cameron Mills Road, Alexandria, VA 22302.

Ida was a caring, affectionate and loving angel. I was the beneficiary of her warmth and generosity when I spent almost all weekends at her Alexandria home in 1972. She treated me as one of her own and today, I pray on her death anniversary and see her smiling face from heaven.

Thanks Sundar and Bruce for those kind thoughts, she loved you guys too. She always got a kick, Sundar, of the puzzled look on your faces when she referred to your habit of rising early as "getting up with the chickens" (Mississippi vernacular).

Dear Martha, Mac, and Linda:
I am deeply pained to hear the loss of your mom. She was kind, sympathetic, and caring, and I recall fond memories of my weekends with her and Iver at their home when I was new to the country and living alone in 1972. She was the one who taught me the intricacies of football and her motherly treatment will never be forgotten. My deepest condolences to all of you and may her departed soul rest in peace and God will give you strength and courage to bear the loss of your dear one.

Linda, Mac, and Martha-
I was saddened to hear of your mom's passing. She was a wonderful lady with great humor, patience, and the ability to put up with her husband's colleagues, employees, and friends. Some of my best memories of my early career were of the time spent with her and Iver. My condolences to all of you.
