Ida Mary Detweiler Boyd of McLean, Virginia, on Saturday, December 22, at Vinson Hall. She was born on January 27, 1922 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; graduated from Duke University in 1943; married in 1948 to Louis M. Detweiler, Captain, United States Navy, Supply Corps; mother of Nancy, Mary and Louis. Ida Mary loved and excelled at providing gracious hospitality, and many have fond memories of the parties and gatherings at their lovely home on Van Winkle Dr. After her husband's death in 1997, she married William J. Boyd in 2000, who died in 2008. Ida Mary devoted much of her time to many worthwhile charities and organizations, among them: Navy Supply Corps Officers Wives Club, Washington Performing Arts Society and their Embassy Adoption Program, the Art Barn in Rock Creek Park, Women's Committee of the National Symphony Orchestra, lifetime member of Alpha Chi Omega, member of First Church of Christ, Scientist. A celebration of Ida Mary's life will be held on Saturday, January 5 at 10 a.m. at the Vinson Hall Chapel, 6251 Old Dominion Dr., McLean, Virginia 22101. Memorial contributions may be made to the Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation (NMCGRF, 6251 Old Dominion Dr., McLean VA 22101; memo note: "in memory of Ida Mary Detweiler Boyd").
