IRVING MACHLIN
Of Bethesda, MD passed away on September 17, 2017 at the age of 98. Irving is survived by his loving wife Claire of 68 years; children, Paula (Richard), Steve (Mollie); grandchildren, David, Cara, Mara and sister, Judith Safner. Mr. Machlin was born in Brooklyn and moved to Washington, DC in 1940, upon graduation from Cooper Union Institute of Technology with a chemical engineer degree. He supplemented his education with graduate course work and worked for over 40 years as a materials engineer in research and development for naval ordinance and aircraft. Mr. Machlin received the Navy's Meritorious Civil Service award and was a fellow of American Society for Metals International. He raised his family in Silver Spring, MD and spent the last 10 years at Maplewood Park where he was an active member of the community. Donations in his honor can be made to the Cooper Union or American Heart Association.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 19 at 10 a.m. at Judean Chapel at Judean Memorial Gardens, Olney, MD followed by a reception at Maplewood Park Place. Steve and Mollie will be receiving friends at their home on Sunday, September 24 from 12 to 5 p.m.www.sagelbloomfield.com
