YARBOROUGH J. MICHAEL YARBOROUGH (Age 58) On Monday, April 15, 2013 after fighting with brain cancer for almost 3 years. Mike worked for over 25 years as a Legislative Analyst specializing in tax policy for the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis. He was proud of his public service work, and enjoyed being around dedicated people who cared about the State. However, the true joys of his life were his family, especially his children, music, his beloved Duke Blue Devils, and family summers at Pawley's Island, SC. He never missed a basketball, lacrosse, baseball, volleyball, or soccer game for his kids or their friends, and could be heard loudly cheering from the stands or sidelines at NCS, Landon, and AAU. He was a great musician, playing piano and guitar, as well as hamboning, and could think of nothing better than to spend a day or long night playing with his college buddies, all of whom called him Tennessee Jed. He also was an avid bridge player, and there will be many bridge club gatherings in Annapolis where he will be sorely missed. He was a passionate Duke Blue Devils fan and regularly attended football, basketball and Lacrosse games in Durham. He had a dry sense of humor and never failed to make people laugh; he could always be depended upon to help out whenever someone needed a hand or a ride or other favor. On February 21, 1955, Mike was born in Maryville, Tennessee to Dr. John A. Yarborough and Marshall P. Yarborough, the youngest of four children. He attended school in Maryville, before attending and graduating from Duke University and Vanderbilt Law School. He went on to obtain his LL.M in Tax from Georgetown Law School. Before joining the Department of Legislative Services in Annapolis, he practiced construction law in Atlanta and Washington, DC. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Sanzo, his children Allison, Patrick and Caroline Yarborough, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ginger and Dr. Stuart Garner of Charlotte, NC, Gayle and Bill Herndon of Atlanta, GA, and his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Emily Yarborough of Maryville, TN, and his sister-in-law Karen Sanzo of West Palm Beach, FL, and many loving nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at Grace Episcopal Church, 1607 Grace Church Road, Silver Spring, MD on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 1 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's name to the Johns Hopkins Brain Tumor Center or the Sarah P. Duke Gardens of Duke University.
