JAMES T. DRAUDE (Age 64)  
Jim Draude died August 16, 2011, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. He was born in Lancaster, PA, and attended Lancaster Catholic High School. He was in the National Honor Society, an Eagle Scout, and principal altar server at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Jim graduated from Georgetown University (B.A., magna cum laude, '69), where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and from Harvard Law School (J.D., cum laude, '73). Jim's work at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was employed for 10 years, included first chair civil litigation in federal trial and appellate courts throughout the United States. For several years Jim was the government's lead attorney in what became known as the Alexandria Waterfront Case, in which community requests were respected with the dedication of a large amount of open space to public use. He also supervised a team that prepared a two-volume manual of policies and procedures for the General Civil Litigation Section. Each year at Justice Jim earned outstanding job performance ratings and numerous awards.  Jim was then a partner in a small law firm, Driscoll and Draude, located in Georgetown, from 1989-2002, where he specialized in civil litigation and business law. He also served his community ANC and the Foggy Bottom Association in matters related to historic preservation, housing issues, and GWU's campus plans. Jim led his tenants' association to one of the first successful D.C. tenants' condominium conversions. Much of his neighborhood work was done on a pro bono basis.  Jim is mourned by his siblings Anne Michael, Tom Draude, Linda Nachtrab, and David Draude. He will be terribly missed by his long-time companion Marianna Moore. Jim's ashes will be scattered on the Chesapeake Bay where he enjoyed boating for many years.
