JAMES E. WORDEN, SR.  

A lifelong resident of Alexandria, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012, after a brief illness. Mr Worden is survived by his son, James E. Worden, Jr., daughter-in-law, Margie Worden, son Randall A. Worden (Laura)and daughter, Susan Cribbs (James) He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Gerry. Mr Worden is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer Worden Caskey (Rob), Sherry Worden (Garth), Sarah Worden, Roderick J. Worden and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Caskey and Ryan J. Caskey.
Mr Worden graduated from George Washington High School and Southeastern University Business School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the North Atlantic. After the war, he worked for 18 years with the Southern Railway as an accountant. After leaving Southern, he worked as a supervisor of accountants for the City of Alexandria, until retiring in 1980.
Mr. Worden was a 60 year member of the Del Ray United Methodist Church where he served many years on the Financial Board. He was also a member of the Henry Knox Field Masonic Lodge and The Valley of Alexandria Scottish Rite. He was a life member of The
Alexandria Sportsman's Club where he served as the treasurer for 20 years as well as the club President. Mr Worden was also a member of The Old Dominion Boat Club.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, May 28, 2012, at the Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 West Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA between 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Del Ray United Methodist Church, 100 East Windsor Ave, Alexandria, Va 22301.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Del Ray United Methodist Church. Flowers, Gifts and a guest register may be found at everlyfuneralhomes.com.
