JEROME SUMNER MASS
Passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 12, 2013 His beloved wife of 35 years, Geraldine was at his side. He was 74 years old when he finally succumbed to Parkinson's disease. Jerry is also survived by his two children, Darren Mass and Stacy Snyder; and his four grandchildren, all residing in Maryland. He was an Army
veteran. His skill in linguistics led him to a long and distinguished career at NSA. His professional positions included Chief of Station in Stuttgart, Germany and Menwith Hill Station in Northern England, where he later retired.
Jerry had a natural talent for the arts; speaking several languages and playing many instruments. He had a passion for writing and directing plays and satires for local theatre groups and was Chairman of Harrogate Theatre in North Yorkshire for several years. He loved photography, music, boating and camping as a young man, and later hiking the Yorkshire Dales. In retirement he became an enthusiastic fly fisherman. He thrived on knowledge and was forever learning and mastering something new. He will be remembered by the many students of his craft, his co-workers, family members, friends and neighbors, both here and abroad.
A Memorial Celebration is being planned for early April for his state-side friends and family. Memorials in his honor may be sent to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, www.pdf.org
