JOAN P. STOKES (nee Cole)  

Of Arlington, VA died peacefully on September 26, 2012 at her sister's home in Alexandria, VA. Mrs. Stokes was born on November 9, 1030 in Philadelphia, PA. She was employed by the U.S. Foreign Service Department, srving in Paris, Cambodia and Brazil. In 1970 Mrs. Stokes relocated to Washington, DC and worked for the U.S. State Department.
Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her husband Donald Stokes; parents Gertrude and Francis Cole; and her two brothers, Francis and Stewart Cole. She is survived by hr two sisters, kathleen Cole of Alexandria, VA and mary Dreux Dowling of West Simsbury, CT; a niece Diane Dreux Smith of Madrid, Spain and her two nephews Dirk R. Dreux of Greenwich, CT and Mark S. Dreux of McLean, VA and several step-children as well as many friends.
Mrs. Stokes donated her body to Georgetown University Medical Research Department. She was a master gardener and baker as well as a devout member of the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA. She was a true and loyal friend to all who knew her.
A Memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 1427 West Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA. A reception will be held at the Church immediately following the mass.
