JOAN RYAN LAWRENCE  
July 19, 1933 - July 30, 2012  

On Monday, July 30, 2012, Joan Lawrence passed away due to cancer at her home in Potomac, Maryland. She is survived by her four children, Suzanne L. Krauth (Thomas), Monica L. Hassan (Damon), Thomas Quinn Lawrence (Candace) and Hugh Lawrence, and her sister Jean Ryan. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Caroline, Joseph, Lowell, Alyssa and Kaitlyn. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Lawrence in 1991. A native of Washington DC, Mrs. Lawrence was a graduate of Trinity College. She was an elementary school teacher before becoming a librarian for the Defense Mapping Agency, retiring in 1995. She was an active volunteer with the Literacy Council of Montgomery County. A wake will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Rockville on Tuesday, August 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8 at St. Elizabeth Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to So Others Might Eat (SOME).
