OGLESBY JOSEPH OGLESBY (Age 89) On August 10, 2012 in Alexandria, VA. Born on December 22, 1922 in Bryan County, GA, he graduated Valedictorian from Consolidated High School in Marlow, GA in 1940. He attended Georgia Teachers College from 1940-1941 and was President of the freshman class before joining the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served until 1961. He served both in Europe and the Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart and Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Okinawa on the USS Shea. He was the Chief Journalist during the Antarctic Operation Deep Freeze, 1955-1957. He joined the Civil Service in 1961 as a writer, editor, speechwriter, news chief and Director of Public Affairs. After retiring from the Civil Service, he was legislative consultant to prime contractor for renovation of rail system from Washington to Boston. He was also Director of Publications, National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He served as Deacon and 4-term Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, VA as well as the founding chairman and 3-term board member of the Westminster Endowment Fund. He married Elizabeth Thompson of Albert Lea, MN in 1945. Their son, John was born in 1946 and their daughter, Janet Kim was born in 1950. Their son, John passed away in 1972. Elizabeth passed away in 1992. He married Asenath Greco in 1996. He is survived by his current wife, Asenath Oglesby; daughter, Janet Kim; grandson, Joseph Edward Kim; three stepchildren, Anne Hartley, Terry Gover, and Thomas Greco; several step grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Goodwin House, 4800 Fillmore Ave., Alexandria, VA 22311. Interment will be held at a later date at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Westminster Endowment Fund, 2701 Cameron Mills Road, Alexandria, VA 22302; Alexandria Tutoring Consortium, 323 S.
