KARLETTA GUNVALSON GILBRIDE "Ky"

Ky Gilbride, 84, died peacefully after a long illness on December 4, 2012, at Greenspring Village where she had been a resident for the past 14 years.
She was born in Spring Valley, Wisconsin, to Cris and Gurina Gunvalson. She moved to Washington, DC right after high school during the Second World War to work as a secretary for the Navy. She met her husband, Paul, who was in the Navy and stationed in Washington. They were married 47 years.
Ky worked at the family-owned Paul S. Gilbride Insurance Agency until her retirement at age 78. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver for her husband, Paul, after he suffered a stroke in 1976 until his death in 1997.
Ky was an active member in the Lutheran Church and a volunteer leader at Greenspring Village, where she led many trips, both domestic and international.
Ky is survived by her two children, a daughter Karen Gilbride Anderson and her husband Steve, and son, Scott Gilbride and his wife, Anne. She has five granddaughters, Kelly Anderson Fish, Stephanie Anderson Diez, Lindsay Gilbride, MaryLacey Gilbride and Annabelle Gilbride. She is also survived by a brother, Russell Gunvalson and his wife, Idelle. Ky is preceded in death by six of her brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012, 2 p.m. at the Greenspring Village Chapel. A private family service will take place at Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
