STALLINGS KATHLEEN ANNE STALLINGS "Kaki" A beautiful soul left this Earth too soon on the morning of February 10, 2013, dimming a very special light in the lives of many. "It is not the length of life, but depth of life." (Ralph Waldo Emerson) Kaki was born and raised in the loving, loud, and fun household of Willett and Mary Elmore in Alexandria, VA. Kaki was the second of five children and the only girl. The Elmore children enjoyed innocent mischief and built life-long friendships with other children in their neighborhood. Kaki attended T.C. Williams High School and subsequently earned an Associates Degree from Northern Virginia Community College. She soon discovered her true passion in nursing and built a thriving career at Inova Alexandria Hospital in the Labor and Delivery and Intensive Care Units. Kaki loved the Northern Virginia area and had no desire to leave; but, then, she found something she loved more - her husband, Roy. She left the area to start her life with him. They moved to various places throughout Virginia, making great memories and building genuine relationships with each stop. They eventually settled in Newport News, VA. Roy and Kaki shared a very special bond during 27 years of marriage. They enjoyed many travels together, including summers in the Outer Banks, trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Key West, and cruises to exotic locations across the globe. And no marriage between a free-spirited liberal and a conservative banker would be complete without some lively discussions about political and social issues. Kaki's focus shifted from the nursing profession to caring for her family members and loved ones. Kaki was a loving wife, proud mother, devoted daughter and family woman, guardian angel to some, and selfless life-long friend to many. She cherished spending time with her family and friends, and her love for her four children was immense. She was delighted to be "Gramma K" to all six of their grandchildren, including their newest grandson, Paxton, born only two weeks ago in Arlington, VA. Kaki was a strong and vibrant woman whose compassion knew no bounds. She found joy in her life at all points and brought happiness to so many others. She will be sorely missed. Kaki was predeceased by her dear nephew, Jacob Elmore. Kaki is survived by her loving husband, Roy D. Stallings, Jr., and their children David and Debbie Vera (Paxton), Andrew Stallings, Jen and Rob Herndon (Bryce, Tanner, and Peyton), and Chris and Kristen Stallings (Brynn and Kinsey). Kaki is also survived by her parents Willett and Mary Elmore, and siblings Tim and Judi Elmore (Beth and Cate), John and Helen Elmore (Justin and Bridgette), Jamie Elmore (Maggie, Ben, James, Jasmine, and Keisha), and Matt Elmore (Marius). The family will receive friends on Friday, February 15, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home (1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA 22302). A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church (310 S. Royal St., Alexandria, VA 22314). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kaki's memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/donate and the at https://donate.americanheart.org.
